Coach the ESSENTIAL BATTING SKILLS in just 5 hours!
"The first 5 hours is key to setting players up with the ESSENTIAL foundation skills on which more complex techniques can be built."

A program developed from 30 years' experience ...
"I’ve spent the last 35 years as professional cricket coach guiding beginning and developing players to become better cricketers.
The program presented here is the result of over 30 years of coaching knowledge and experience gained during 1000’s of hours of 1 to 1 private batting coaching.
Experience has shown me that the first 5 hours is key to setting players up with a solid set of foundation skills on which more complex techniques can be built."
~ Rick Heilbronn
For coaches and parents ...
BATTING ESSENTIALS™ aims to provide coaches and parents (regardless of coaching or playing experience) with the information and skills required to coach the ESSENTIAL BATTING SKILLS to any beginning or developing player in just 5 hours* of training time!
NOTE:
Throughout the program, both coaches and parents are referred to as 'COACHES'.

EFFECTIVE COACHING
If you have a previous playing background this will certainly assist you as a coach, however, please understand that playing the game is not the same as coaching someone else to play the game.
Coaching requires you to develop a different set of skills!
Coaching effectively is about understanding what information your player needs and being able to provide this information when it is needed and in a format that is useful to the player. Fortunately, these skills can be learnt and developed with practice.
Before you learn the specific movement techniques, it is important for you to understand some the of coaching processes and techniques that you will use when implementing the coaching program.

STRUCTURED LEARNING PROGRAM
To ensure a quality learning experience, this program makes use of a structured skill building approach. Structured learning means that the information presented within the learning program is done so in an organised and sequential manner.
It is the structure of the sessions that guide the player towards the intended outcomes of the training.
When you come to the LESSON PLANS, you will notice, that these have been carefully structured using the same skill building approach used throughout this program.

STICK TO THE PROGRAM SEQUENCE!
I understand that when you purchase a program such as this, you'll be keen to get going and it will be tempting to move straight to the lesson plans so you can start coaching your player (or players).
However, for you to get the most from this program, I strongly recommend that you study each of MODULES in the sequence presented.
The more information you can learn now, the more knowledge you will have when you come to implement the LESSONS PLANS and it will make more sense as to why the Lesson Plans are structured the way they are – ultimately producing better results for your players!
LEARNING MODULES
To guide your learning, the BATTING ESSENTIALS™ program uses a system of MODULES to Step you through the Knowledge and Skills required.
As with any good coaching program, the Modules ‘Start at the Start’ and build your coaching knowledge and skills sequentially and progressively by delivering specific information on a knowledge or skill topic in an easy to digest format.
Although each module is a stand-alone teaching unit, each module relates to the others and combine to give you a solid understanding of LEARNING METHODS as well as providing you with the skills and information you should be coaching to your player/s.
Being a modular system, if you need to revisit information, then you only need to go back to the relevant MODULE that contains the information you need.

COACHING PRINCIPLES MODULE
Part of becoming a better coach is to understand and use methods and techniques within a coaching session to ensure your players receive the maximum support for their learning and benefit from the coaching experience and environment.
In the COACHING PRINCIPLES Module, I share with you 4 LEARNING METHODS (or techniques) which are incorporated into the LESSON PLANS to enhance the learning experience for the player. As you progress through this program, you will notice that I have used these principles to guide your learning.

COACHING FEEDBACK MODULE
FEEDBACK is the ESSENTIAL COACHING TOOL and this module will show you simple methods for providing your players with better quality and more effective feedback.
FEEDBACK is where the ‘coaching takes place'. Players will progress in direct proportion to the quality of the feedback they receive. The difference between effective coaching and ineffective coaching comes down to the quality of the feedback delivered to players.
Providing FEEDBACK effectively is a skill that must be developed and practised by anyone wishing to become a more effective coach.

CONCEPTS MODULE
To learn effectively, players need to understand certain CONCEPTS (or ideas) that support the techniques they are developing. Coaches need to realise that the CONCEPTS (or ideas) underpinning the techniques provide players with information that is a vital part of the coaching and learning process!
Most coaches and coaching programs only focus on the technical aspects of batting – the essential CONCEPTS that need to be developed are often missing from the coaching environment!
Not only does a knowledge of these CONCEPTS improve the player’s understanding of the techniques, they also create a consistent ‘coaching language’ enabling more effective communication between player and coach.
The CONCEPTS Module explores the 20 ESSENTIAL CONCEPTS that I believe are essential to ensuring players have the knowledge required to allow full technical development.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS MODULE
When you arrive at the ESSENTIAL SKILLS module, you will see that there are videos and Frame by Frame outlines of each of the 7 ESSENTIAL SKILLS (techniques). The videos and still images, in this module, have been shown from the 'Coaches Perspective'.
Where I have considered it necessary to show a side on view (mainly to illustrate a point or to provide extra detail), this has also been included.

COACHING NOTES MODULE
The COACHING NOTES module answers the common question of "How do we get our player's ready to learn?"
We also look at my recommended session frequency and bowling machine use including an alternative method for ball delivery (if you don't have access to a bowling machine).

LESSON PLANS MODULE
Once you have carefully studied each of the modules, you will have both the theoretical knowledge and the technical knowledge to enable you to implement the lesson plans and start coaching your player.
The LESSON PLANS Module contains 10 (detailed and sequential) lesson outlines which combine to make up the first 5 hours of training for a beginning or developing player.
The LESSON PLANS will guide you, step by step, through the exact coaching sequence that I use whenever I am coaching a player for the first time.
This coaching sequence has been developed over the past 20 years and has been put into practice during 1000’s of hours of 1 to 1 private cricket coaching lessons in my role as a professional cricket coach.

* Note
This program is designed to cover the first 5 hours of training time only. At the end of the 5 hours, if this program has been implemented in the sequence presented, players will have a good understanding of the essential concepts and batting techniques that make up a foundation or fundamental batting technique.
It will take many more hours of practice and technique training for the player to fully develop their game however, players who have been through this program will have a solid foundation on which to continually build and develop their skills.
